We aim to make disease models accessible to the worldwide research community. To that end, we acquire, develop, and characterize new models, and distribute them through public repositories.
Models currently available include cell lines and several types of xenograft models representing many of the clinical manifestations of the disease. This includes models derived from primary, recurrent, and metastatic tumors of multiple anatomic locations from children and adults.
Importantly, all models available from our repositories are rigorously characterized to ensure that they are actually derived from chordoma tumors and are properly identified.
Access to model sequencing data
Data resulting from genomic characterization of our cell lines and PDX models is available in Cavatica. To access the Chordoma Foundation Dataset, create an account, log in, and submit a data access request. Processed and easily queryable model sequencing data is also available in PedcBioPortal.
General chordoma cell culture protocols
CF Labs developed and vetted protocols to optimize chordoma cell culture and experiments. Contact us if you need assistance.

Cell line repository
We partner with the American Type Culture Collection (ATCC) to maintain and distribute chordoma cell lines through their global distribution channels. Many of these cell lines are available through ATCC’s General Collection and may be purchased on the ATCC website. For cell lines that cannot be made available through ATCC’s General Collection, we maintain a private repository at ATCC; cell lines in this collection are available via a material transfer agreement with the Chordoma Foundation.
See the table below for details on available cell lines and how they can be obtained. Click the name of a cell line for more details including clinical data and culture instructions.
To request cell lines requiring an MTA, contact us. Requests involving multiple disease models that use identical MTA terms (such as U-CH or UM-Chor cell lines) may be consolidated into a single MTA document. In such cases, please specify each model requested in the draft MTA.

PDX repository
We partner with the contract research organization XenoSTART in San Antonio, TX to maintain and distribute cell line-derived xenograft (CDX) and patient-derived xenograft (PDX) models of chordoma. Currently available PDX models are listed below. Click the name of the model for more details including clinical data and culture instructions.
To request models contact us. Requests involving multiple disease models that use identical MTA terms (CF or SF PDX models) may be consolidated into a single MTA document. In such cases, please specify each model requested in the draft MTA.
In addition to the PDX models listed below, cell line derived xenograft models have been developed from the U-CH1 and CH22 cell lines. A humanized model of the U-CH1 cell line has also been developed. Contact us for more information.
Acknowledgements
We are deeply grateful to the patients who donated their tumor tissue from which these models are derived, to the researchers who painstakingly created them, and to the many donors who have contributed to making them available to the research community.
